MEXICO, Gold Medallic Caballito Peso, \”1907\” Moonlight Mint (Dan Carr, 2019) ANACS MS-70

Mintage 12, 1.206oz AGW. 39mm. A fantasy date overstrike of Mexico\’s famous Caballito Peso on a gold 50 Peso Centennario. Beautifully detailed with the minor original design flaws eliminated, these Dan Carr productions were made for and in consultation with Allan Schein, author of Mexican Beauty/Belleza Mexicana. It is a near perfect reproduction and a true medallic work by a master artisan, struck 4 times under 400 tons pressure. The edge lettering on Centennarios were carefully retained and are identical to original Caballitos, reading: INDEPENDENCIA-Y-LIBERTAD. The 1907 date was chosen as this was the first date of this design as it appeared on the 50 centavo patterns of 1907. No peso patterns were struck until 1909. A truly rare offering graded a perfect MS-70.
