These issues were struck by hand in quadrants or specific areas at a time when dies were somewhat accurately placed for striking. This particular specimen is well struck considering some of the areas display evidence of double striking. The process wasn’t exactly precise by today’s standards. Most characteristics of the design are somewhat impressive to view considering there is very little evidence of friction on only the highest points and the design looks fairly life-like to the viewer. The patina is primarily gun-metal gray with a tinge of gloss and some traces of sky blue making an appearance on the surfaces which accentuates the eye-appeal.
