This coin was a result from a decree issued in June of 1862 which is a proposed design for a gold coin that never issued for circulation. Most notably, less than a handful of gold pieces were struck, and one unique set of four does exist which was auctioned at Heritage in 2006. A classic rarity, struck in gilt bronze, this example exhibits altered color but still portrays well defined details from a bold striking.
