Struck during the Reformation period from 1690-1723 when the French Monarchy implemented re-coining. The government used circulating coinage as blanks for new coinage to cut production costs during inflationary times. This particular blank was from the Paris Mint as the A can clearly be seen on the reverse. Lustrous fields are accentuated by some faint smokey tones on the obverse. The frostiness of the coin is illuminated by cartwheel luster and light champagne patina that glows beautifully. Only five examples of this date from the Amiens Mint are graded at PCGS and this is the finest example graded to date at either grading service.
