For this period of coinage, this is about as full of a strike as one can ask for in some respects. The Grundy collection at the time had the finest known specimen as an MS62. If one were to compare this specimen and that Ecu side by side at Heritage Auctions, it’s clear to see this one is much more superior to the other coin in many respects. For starters, the strike is almost full on both sides, the highpoints do not reveal any abrasions, and the fields are quite nice. Cartwheel luster is reflected on both sides of the pencil lead gray surfaces and some faint champagne tones highlight the peripheries. The effigy shows a slight cameo effect, notable eye-appeal is mentioned and this example is the finest graded example to date at NGC as of 4/30/18.
